Looking for an experienced lifeguard / Aquatics professional to be the point of contact for our lifeguard team
Job Description
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Aquatics, the Assistant Aquatics Director will provide: lifeguard schedules, pool schedules, lifeguard certification courses, lifeguard duties, pool maintenance (cleaning, polishing, etc.), act as point of contact for lifeguards and assist Senior Director of Aquatics in administrative duties including annual budget and forecasting.
Additionally, the Assistant Aquatics Director will set up lifeguards for each summer camp waterfront: Camp Mini, Camp Y-Ki, Steve Benko Pool swim lessons, and Horizons summer program.
The Assistant Aquatics Director will support the Senior Director of Aquatics with Aquatic Instruction as needed and provide department leadership and guidance in the absence of the Senior Director of Aquatics.
Qualifications
KNOW-HOW
- Certifications in: CPR for Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard, Waterfront, and Lifeguard Instructor (or ability to obtain Lifeguard Instructor within 6 months of start date).
- Possess the following skills: problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking. Must be mature, reliable, and professional.
- Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience preferred .
- The age requirement for this position is 21 due to Connecticut's regulations for summer responsibilities.
Essential Functions
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES - Ensure a safe and caring environment for all members and lifeguards.
- Follow and enforce safety standards, policies, and procedures provided by the Senior Director of Aquatics and New Canaan YMCA.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to the lifeguard staff.
- Assist Senior Director of Aquatics with annual budget and forecasting.
- Responsible for keeping certifications of all lifeguards current with a tracking system for when certifications are expiring.
- Fill in as lifeguard and/or aquatic instructor, as needed.
- Actively engage with all aquatic department staff. Set an example for staff through proper attendance protocol and leadership.
- Serve as the leader of a team of lifeguards as required. This individual should be willing to work opening and closing shifts.
- Supervise, train, and recertify all lifeguard staff.
- Take leadership of scheduling and coordinating, lifeguard staff and pool schedules, with approval from Senior Director of Aquatics.
- Assume role of Waterfront Director for our outdoor day camp, Camp Y-Ki held at Kiwanis Park. Workdays for the summer are Monday - Friday.
- Workdays from fall to spring are variable; flexibility to work weekends is required. Schedule change based on guard shifts, supervisor schedule, and special events; i.e. competitive team meets and programs.
- Lead staff with cleaning the pools, pool decks, general pool area, and pool equipment. Logging chemical readings and water temperatures, and daily usage tracking.
- Assist in planning and scheduling of aquatic department events and meets.
- Along with the Senior Director of Aquatics, assist in the planning and facilitation of department staff meetings and trainings.
- Provide timely annual staff evaluations.
- Perform other duties as designated by the Senior Director of Aquatics.
